LinkedIn…I don’t Get it! “6 Tips for Small Businesses”

LinkedIn is a great tool that provides some unique features and capabilities that other social media networking tools do not offer. LinkedIn also has some great pull when it comes to SEO… but why do so few people really use LinkedIn the way it should be used?

I know I log in and look at my profile about once a month for 2 minutes. I don’t know why, for some reason I don’t like it, I also didn’t like Twitter a couple of weeks ago…but I made the effort to understand it and started using it, now I get it and love using it.

I am making the effort, over the next week, to really start utilizing and understanding LinkedIn. I am hoping to establish more connections and more than anything work on getting my profile 100% complete…after all what does it say about you if you can’t even complete an online profile. I hope by making the effort to understand LinkedIn better I will see the true value in it…Just like Twitter.

Falling In and Out of Love with Google Wave

When Google Wave was first released I was both confused and in love, all at the same time. I spent some time watching all of the sweet videos inside of wave and on YouTube. I was amazed, this awesome tool was going to change the way I worked and communicated, by myself and with others. I continued to watch video after video while taking notes on all the tips and tricks because I wanted to make sure that I knew how to use anything and everything within Wave. Then it was time to start my first wave and try out all these new, cool, fun, and easy ways of collaborating…FAIL, FAIL, FAIL!!! Google Wave sucked! Myself, and others in my office, were thoroughly confused the minute they signed into wave and attempted to do anything. It was no where close to what the videos portrayed. My two biggest complaints were: You had to know a persons specific Google wave email address to add them to your contact list, and there was no way to be notified when someone added something new to a wave…FAIL and FAIL. Regardless of these two ridiculously absent features, we (my coworkers and I) still attempted to use it several times…and guess what it FAILED every single time. I understand that wave is still in testing, but it was highly frustrating that they released it the way it was… Needless to say, we all stopped using it.

Well, I am in love with Wave again. I just signed into my account for the first time in like two or three months and there was all this neat stuff waiting for me. Things have changed a bit and I am once again excited about using it. There are some sweet little extensions that have been added, it looks like some of my Gmail contacts have been automatically been added as wave contacts (thank you), and, my favorite update, is that you now have the capability to receive notifications via email..Hooray…THANK YOU Google! I haven’t had the time to really test any of this “new” stuff out yet…I hope it all works like I think it will.
